In addition to the many interviews, I’ve also saved a lot of tweets from Jeffrey Yohalem answering fan questions so… here they are! Tweets from Far Cry 3’s Lead Writer about the game look at me finally posting a years-old theory because I have a deadline haha far cry 3 vaas montenegro citra talugmai jason brody I think JY wanted the 'radical' ending but they probably told him it wouldn't be fun still he said in interviews that citra actually threatens to delete your save file far cry 3 spoilers That might explain why, despite the fact he was a Rakyat warrior, Vaas doesn’t seem to have tattoos. In fact, he explains that the first time he ever killed, it was for his sister, that he would have done anything for her, but that it was never enough… When the time came to finally fulfill the role she had in mind for him, he understandably refused to participate in the quite extreme ritual and left.Įven though there’s probably no hidden meaning behind Vaas’ tattoo in the trailer, I think it’s possible that, as Citra’s former candidate to become the ultimate warrior, he did receive a tatau but, because he refused to complete the ritual, it magically disappeared. He, too, did what Citra asked and killed people for her.
Throughout the game, we learn that, before Jason, it was Vaas who was destined to become the ultimate warrior. This doesn’t actually happen for gameplay reasons but, according to the lead writer, Jeffrey Yohalem, this “radical” ending was considered at some point. At the end of the story, when she decides it’s time for Jason to receive the final tatau, she warns him that, if he refuses to complete the ritual (which includes killing his friends), everything he has accomplished on the island will be erased, including his tatau. She tells him she will give him power and what he desires… if he does what she asks and kills people for her, basically. It also seems to be magical because, as Jason grows stronger and learns new skills, new patterns supernaturally appear on his skin.Ĭitra’s goal is to make Jason the ultimate warrior. The tattoo (or, more precisely, the tatau) Jason receives from Dennis is supposed to help him reveal his “true self” as a warrior. What if he did have one… but it disappeared when he left the tribe? As she lay dying in Jason's arms she says she loves him and begs him to not leave her, Jason says "I'm sorry" and with that she perishes, leaving Dennis shocked and mortified by what he had just done. What most likely happened is that the developers simply tried several designs and eventually decided not to give him a tattoo, but seeing Vaas with a tattooed arm got me thinking… He used to be a Rakyat warrior before he started working for Hoyt so it would make sense for him to have tattoos. If the player chooses the latter, however, she desperately tries to convince him to change his mind proclaiming that she loves him and that he will go back to being nothing and will stop being a warrior if he leaves the island with his friends, this only shows her deep obsession and fanatical love for him.ĭennis Rodgers then comes and attempts to stab Jason out of anger for what he considers an insult and outrage to the tribe and to Citra, but in an act of what one could consider true love Citra jumps in the way and takes the hit in order to save Jason's life, leaving her fatally wounded with a knife in her stomach.
The scene then cuts to the two having sex in a ritual when Citra suddenly stabs Jason when they finish as a part of said ritual, saying she that he is a warrior and should die a warrior, and that their child will become the ruler of the Rakyat, as Jason lays bleeding to death she whispers to him before he dies "You Won". If the player chooses the former, Jason slits his girlfriends throat along with his friends and joins Citra. The player can either obey her and join her and the tribe or defy her and save your friends. While quite unpleasant at times, she does not show any signs of really being a villain until the very end of the game, where she tries to make Jason Brody kill his friends and join her in order to quote "Complete the path of becoming the ultimate warrior".
